François CAMPION (1680 -1748)

"Little is known about the origins and life of Francois Campion. He was born around 1680, undoubtedly in Rouen. We find him in Paris as of 1703, where he was was given the title of professor of theorbo and guitar at the Royal Academy of Paris by king Louis XIV. He published his "Nouvelles Découvertes sur la guitare" in Paris in 1705 as well as a treaty on accompaniment which includes the first fugues for guitar ever written. He died in 1748."
